PRE-CONFERENCE SESSIONS


Research Symposium
Wednesday, June 26, 2019
American University – Full Day
Each presenter will be seated at a round table and will have the opportunity to present their research for 10 minutes, four consecutive times. Audience members will initially select a table to sit at and then move to a new research presentation every 10 minutes. Following the 45 minutes of roundtable presentations, all audience members will participate in a 15-minute Q&A session at the table/presenter of their choice. Presenters are encouraged to bring handouts or other materials to share with attendees.

SESSIONS/BREAKOUTS


Classroom Demo
Thursday, June 27, 2019 – American University
Friday, June 28, 2019 – Newseum
The classroom demo will consist of educators and practitioners turning their presentation space into a classroom! The audience will become the “class” and the presenter will provide a demonstration of a full 45 minute media literacy lesson followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.

Idea Fair
Thursday, June 27, 2019
American University
This format allows individuals or groups to conduct an interactive demonstration of a practice, research, or tool as often as desired over the course of a two hour period. These presentations will take place in a large, communal space where attendees will have the ability to walk freely between asynchronous presentations, allowing ample time for interaction with presentators to ask questions or network.

Curriculum Roundtable
Thursday, June 27, 2019 – American University
Friday, June 28, 2019 – Newseum
The Curriculum Roundtable sessions are designed for sharing curriculum and classroom ideas to with other educators, researchers, and practitioners. Each presenter will be seated at a round table and will have the opportunity to present their information every 25 minutes to 3-4 groups of audience members. Audience members will move to a new table every 25 minutes. Following the 100 minutes of roundtable presentations, all audience members will participate in a 20 minute Q&A session with the presenter of their choice.

International Roundtable
Thursday, June 27, 2019 – American University
Friday, June 28, 2019 – Newseum
The International Roundtable session is designed for attendees who wish to learn more about media literacy efforts around the world. Sessions will cover topics like programming, classroom curriculum, and policy. Each presenter will be seated at a round table and will have the opportunity to present their information every 25 minutes to 3-4 groups of audience members. Audience members will move to a new table every 25 minutes. Following the 100 minutes of roundtable presentations, all audience members will participate in a 20 minute Q&A session with the presenter of their choice.
