Adler is a doctoral student in International and Comparative Education at the Graduate School of Education & Information at UCLA. Her main research interests are in lifelong learning and psychological wellbeing. She is currently conducting a qualitative study on Holocaust survivors who work as educators.
Karen Ambrosh
Ambrosh_KarenKaren Ambrosh is president of The National Telemedia Council and a board member of The Journal of Media Literacy. After a decade teaching video production in the middle school, she has been teaching high school English, Media, and Communication courses at Audubon High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the past 10 years.
Neil Andersen
Andersen_NeilNeil Andersen is president of The Association for Media Literacy (Ontario) and a board member of The Journal of Media Literacy. He has taught primary to post-secondary media studies for over 30 years, including teacher courses for Mount Saint Vincent University, York University and the University of Toronto.
 Jimmeka L. Anderson

Anderson is a graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and a Concentration in Adolescent Development. Currently, she is a candidate for her Master’s in Educational Media at Appalachian State University. Jimmeka is also the Founder and Executive Director for a 501C3 nonprofit, I AM not the MEdia, an author of two books of poetry, spoken word artist and an Outreach Library Coordinator for Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.
 Seth Ashley
Ashley_SethSeth Ashley (PhD, University of Missouri) is associate professor of journalism and media studies at Boise State University. He is faculty adviser for student media, and his research centers on the role of media in democratic society with work in media literacy, media sociology and media policy.
 Lynne Azarchi
Azarchi_LynneFounder/Executive Director of the Kidsbridge Tolerance Center in NJ– an immersive ‘small group discussion’ learning lab for 2500 youth and 300 teachers each year, Lynne has spent the last fifteen years creating evidence-based, interactive, engaging programs for youth dealing with media literacy, bullying prevention, empathy, respect and diversity appreciation.
 Emily Bailin Wells
Bailin Wells_EmilyEmily is a doctoral candidate in Communication & Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her dissertation explores how images and messages of “girls” and “girlhood” are constructed and understood at an elite private all-girls school in Manhattan. Emily is also a media literacy curriculum consultant for The Media Spot.
 Claire Douglas Beach
Beach_ClaireFor over the past 40 years I have worked with teens and media literacy issues. I have witnessed the transformation they experience when their critical thinking skills are awakened and they start to understand the impact the media has on their lives. I am so proud of the work we have done in partnership with legislators in WA State to insure all our students will have access to media literacy and digital citizenship education.
 Maren Beaufort
Beaufort_MarenMaren Beaufort is a Junior Scientist at the Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies (CMC) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Her research interests are: social media, political participation, media effects research, and media literacy.
 Ralph Beliveau
Beliveau_Ralph.jpgRalph Beliveau is an Associate Professor in the Gaylord College at the University of Oklahoma. He is the co-editor of International Horror Film Directors: Global Fear (Intellect/Univ. of Chicago) and co author of Digital Literacy (Peter Lang). His research focuses on documentary, critical media literacy, popular culture, and rhetoric.
Alan Berry
Formerly the Education Director for The LAMP in New York City, Alan has designed and facilitated hundreds of hours of media literacy programs in school day and out-of-school spaces for youth and older adults, and he has provided professional development for educators in New York and Chicago on media technologies and integrating media literacy into K-12 classrooms. He is most interested in media literacy as a method for empowering underserved and underrepresented communities to civic action and as a learner-centered, critical approach to challenging consumer culture and traditional narratives.
Malori Bigler
Malori, a native of Herriman Utah, has been involved in over seven student films and many other projects. Malori was a member of the story team and lead over the “Weird Stuff Land” section of Dark Ride Disneyland. She recently graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s degree in media arts.
Robin Blom
Robin Blom is a graduate director and assistant professor of journalism at Ball State University, where he teaches media law and ethics. His research interests include news media perceptions, memory and cognition, misinformation, and journalism education. He has been a reporter for regional and national daily newspapers in The Netherlands.
 Spencer Brayton
Brayton_Spencer.jpgSpencer oversees library services, the information literacy program, and also co-teaches a combined media and information literacy course in his role as Director of the Learning Commons at Blackburn College (IL). His research and teaching interests focus on the overlap between media literacy and information literacy.
 Alexis Brown
Brown_AlexisAlexis Brown is a PhD candidate in the department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Victoria. She is also a high-school humanities teacher, and has worked in urban, rural, and alternative classroom settings. Her research interests include critical literacies with Indigenous adolescents, dialogic pedagogy, and adolescent literacies.
 Catherine Burgess

 Tom Burrell
Burrell_TomAfter 32 years as CEO of Burrell Communications, an advertising agency targeting the black consumer market, Tom Burrell authored “Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority”. This highly acclaimed book examines the role that media messaging (propaganda) plays in shaping attitudes and behavior, encouraging sustainable solutions through media literacy.
 Lara Burton
Burton_Lara.jpgLara is a teaching assistant in the School of communication and a PhD candidate in the Knowledge Mediation Research Group (GReMS) at University of Louvain (Belgium). Her research focuses on the media literacy competencies mobilized by young adults as part of their civic or political participation.
 Eisha Buch
Bush_EishaEisha Buch is the Senior Manager of Education Programs at Common Sense where she focuses on developing and disseminating Common Sense’s Digital Citizenship & News Literacy programs. Before coming to Common Sense, Eisha taught secondary math in both public and charter schools in New York City for several years. She has experience in in the international education space, education technology, and is passionate about developing kids to think critically about the media they are consuming and creating.
 Carla LynDale Carter-Bishop

 Natasha Casey
Casey_Natasha.jpgNatasha Casey, Ph.D., is associate professor of communications at Blackburn College, Illinois. Her work has been published in New Hibernia Review and ‘The Irish in US’. Her most recent conference presentations were in Toronto (Canadian Association of Professional Academic Librarians), Rome (International Media Education Summit), and South Bend, Indiana (American Conference for Irish Studies).
Mary Caton-Rosser
Caton-Rosser_Mary.jpgMary Caton-Rosser is associate professor of mass communication at Black Hills State University. She advises the student newspaper Jacket Journal, converged site BHSUmedia.com, and also the Public Relations Club. MCR teaches classes in mass media law, ethics, theory social media and newswriting-editorial. Research is on media literacy and community informatics.
Denise Chapman
Denise is a passionate digital media-creator and teacher-educator at Monash University. She is an early childhood inclusion specialist focused on critical digital literacies and culturally-sustaining partnerships within diverse communities in Melbourne, Australia. As part of the Learning with New Media Group, Denise’s current research prioritizes communities experiencing marginalization.
 Shayna Cook
Cook_Shayna.jpgShayna Cook is a policy analyst with the Education Policy program at New America. She is a member of the Learning Technologies project. Cook researches and reports on innovation, new technologies, and digital equity issues concerning children from birth through third grade.
 Stephanie Craft

Her news literacy work has appeared Journalism Educator and the Journal of Media Literacy Education. She is co-author of the textbook Principles of American Journalism.
Jayne Cubbage
Cubbage_JayneDr. Jayne Cubbage teaches graduate students Organizational Communication in the Department of Communications at Bowie State University. She has previously taught courses in broadcast journalism, mass communication and media literacy. Her research interests include media audiences of color, media literacy and social networking.
 Sherri Hope Culver
Version 2Sherri Hope Culver serves as Director, Center for Media and Information Literacy at Temple University and Associate Professor, School of Media and Communication. She is on the board of NAMLE and served as co-editor of the Yearbook on Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue published by UNESCO/UNAOC from 2013-2015.
 Belinha De Abreu, PhD.

She is the author of Mobile Learning through Digital Media Literacy (2017), author/co-editor of Media Literacy Education in Action: Theoretical and Pedagogical Perspectives (2014).
Vanessa Domine, Ph.D.
domineDr. Domine is a full professor of Communication & Media at Montclair State University. She holds BA and MA degrees in Communication and a PhD in Media Ecology. She is the author of Rethinking Technology in Schools, and Healthy Teens, Healthy Schools: How Media Literacy Education Can Renew Education in the United States.
Lucy Eagleson
Eagleson_LucyBorn and raised in Escondido, California, Lucy spent 3 years living and volunteering at an orphanage in Bosnia-Herzegovina. It was during that time that she found herself in the midst of unique stories as she came to know the wise individuals behind those journeys. That wisdom, paired with a deep appreciation for the power of the image, inspired Lucy to pursue a career in filmmaking. Lucy obtained her Master of Fine Arts in Film and TV Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and she continues to produce and direct short documentary films. She is honored to bring her passions together by seeking to instill in young people the importance of telling their stories, while providing them the skills necessary to create digital content.
 Bobbie Eisenstock, Ph.D.
Eisenstock_Bobbi.pngDr. Bobbie Eisenstock specializes in the social-psychological effects of convergent media technologies and strategies for educating and empowering youth in the participatory digital culture. She is on the faculty at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School in Los Angeles and California State University, Northridge where she directs a civic engagement initiative with the National Eating Disorders Association.
 Doaa FathAllah
FathAllah_DoaaDoaa Fathallah Rady is a ‘journalism and Edu. media assistant lecturer’ at Cairo University, and a researcher in media and education fields. Doaa has pursued her Master’s Degree with High Honors in Journalism and Mass Communication from the American University in Cairo (AUC), and she currently is a PhD candidate in Journalism department at Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University. His achievements include: Urban Communication Foundation prize, Time Warner Cable grant, NYS Communication Association Neil Postman Mentor Award, 2 Tellys, and a book, Sitcom Society (2008).
 Yonty Friesem
Friesem_Yonty.JPGDr. Yonty (Jonathan) Friesem is the Associate Director at the Media Education Lab and an Assistant Professor at Central Connecticut State University. Yonty is an award-winning educator and filmmaker who advocates for media literacy education. His research explores the social and emotional components of teaching media production.
 Katherine Fry
Fry_KatherineKatherine G. Fry (Ph.D., 1994, Temple University) is Professor of Media Studies at Brooklyn College of CUNY. She teaches and publishes in the areas of media ecology; media literacy; and cultural analysis of journalism. Currently she is engaged in research and publications around the changing definition of news in the digital environment. Fry has developed, and teaches, a model of activist media literacy education based on her grassroots media literacy education work as Co-Founder and former Education Director of The LAMP (www.thelamp.org), based in New York City.
Michael Lee Gardin
Michael Lee Gardin is a researcher and teacher in feminist, gender, and queer studies as well as in writing, literature, and critical theory. She recently joined the faculty of Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, Texas and teaches Women’s Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her current research focuses on decolonizing the study of gender and sexuality as well as feminist and queer theory and transgender studies. Michael Lee is also a dedicated pedagogue, and in her time outside of the classroom, she is developing new scholarship focused on teaching practices in Women’s Studies courses in an effort to recognize and utilize the multiple and often contending ways that different disciplines conceptualize gender. Michael Lee understands her theorizing of social justice, her teaching, and her advocacy on college campuses as interrelated, always informing one another, and her mentorship and activism has been recognized with such honors as the LGBT Faculty Advocate of the Year Award as well as an invitation to be the keynote speaker at a Lavender Graduation ceremony.
 Ryan Goble
Goble_RyanRyan R. Goble is the co-author of ‘Making Curriculum Pop: Developing Literacies Across Content Areas’ (NCTE/Free Spirit) and he works as the Teaching and Learning Coordinator for Glenbard High School District 87 in Glen Ellyn, IL. Ryan has a BA & MA from the University of Michigan and is a doctoral candidate in Interdisciplinary studies at Teachers College Columbia University in New York City.
 Kate Goddard
Goddard_Kate.jpgKate Goddard specializes in designing, implementing, and supporting the continuous improvement of technology- and media-based out-of-school time programs. From 2007 to 2016, she advanced the mission of Adobe Foundation’s philanthropic initiative Adobe Youth Voices by building the capacity of programs and educators around the globe to implement youth media programming.

She has worked with Project Look Sharp at Ithaca College, the Media Education Lab at URI, and Convergence Design Lab at Columbia College. She teaches Media Literacy at Roosevelt University.

 Joanna M. Grymes

Christopher Harris
Dr. Christopher Harris is an Associate Professor of Communication in the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Nevada State College. His research interests include fine-de-siècle rap music and neo-soul, critical pedagogy, media portrayals of ethnicity/race, and the relationship/interplay between power and discourse in contemporary society.
 Jessica Harvey
Harvey_JessicaJessica Harvey is an assistant professor of communication at Saint Vincent College. Her interest in media literacy education was first sparked in Seattle, working with Marilyn Cohen at the University of Washington and serving as a board member for Action for Media Education. Her research focuses on media education in the community and homes of youth.
 Ian David Hawkes

Recently graduated, he spends his time designing indie video games, writing and pitching screenplays and comic books, and hiking in the mountains with his wife.

Angela Hubbard
Hubbard_AngelaAngela Hubbard is the Program Officer responsible for projects and partnerships of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC). Angela helps to advance the work of youth serving librarians in the areas of media mentorship, diversity, summer reading and learning, and early literacy.
Gabriella Huggins
Huggins_Gabriela.jpgGabriella Huggins is Community Programs Mentor for Spy Hop Productions. Gabriella mentors Spy Hop’s Sending Messages program, the country’s only storytelling podcast produced entirely by incarcerated youth, and provides digital media arts programming to youth from low-income or marginalized communities and students on the continuum of prevention, intervention, and treatment.
Emma Humphries
Humphries_Emma.jpgEmma Humphries is the Chief Education Officer at iCivics where she serves as the organization’s pedagogical expert, leads the curriculum team, and supports teachers in deepening their engagement with iCivics’ products. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Florida with an emphasis in civics.
Amy Petersen Jensen
Jensen_AmyAmy Petersen Jensen is a professor and Associate Dean in the College of Fine Arts and Communications at Brigham Young University. She previously served on the board of directors for the National Association for Media Literacy and as the founding co-editor of the Journal of Media Literacy Education. In 2011 She received the Meritorious Service Award from the National Association for Media Literacy Education. She is the editor and co-author of Arts Literacies and Education (Routledge, 2015).
Hyeon-Seon Jeong
Jeong_Hyeon-SeonHyeon-Seon Jeong is Professor of media literacy education at the Gyeongin National University of Education, South Korea, where she teaches courses in media literacy education to undergraduate and graduate students. Her research interests include children and young people’s media literacy practices in and out-of-school settings, teacher education and classroom practices for media literacy education, development of the use of digital technology and media resources for literacy and media literacy education and policy for media and digital literacy.
Tessa Jolls
Jolls_Tessa.jpgTessa Jolls is President and CEO of the Center for Media Literacy, a position she has held since 1999. She founded the Consortium for Media Literacy. In 2015, Jolls received the Global Media and Information Literacy Award, from the UNESCO-initiated GAPMIL, along with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).
Matthew Johnson
Matthew Johnson is the Director of Education for MediaSmarts, Canada’s center for digital and media literacy. He is the author of many of MediaSmarts’ lessons, parent materials and interactive resources and a lead on MediaSmarts’ Young Canadians in a Wired World research project. As an acknowledged expert in digital literacy and its implementation in Canadian curricula, Matthew is the architect of MediaSmarts’ Use, Understand, Create: Digital Literacy Framework for Canadian K-12 Schools. He has contributed blogs and articles to websites and magazines around the world as well as presenting MediaSmarts’ materials on topics such as copyright, cyberbullying, body image and online hate to parliamentary committees, academic conferences and governments and organizations around the world, frequently as a keynote speaker. He has served as on expert panels convened by the Canadian Pediatric Society, the Ontario Network of Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Services and others, consulted on provincial curriculum for the Ontario Ministry of Education, and been interviewed by outlets such as The Globe and Mail, BBC News Magazine, The Christian Science Monitor, Radio Canada International and CBC’s The National.
 Zenzele Johnson
Johnson_ZenzeleZenzele Johnson is a writer, connector, and advocate for education equity and inclusive media representation. She has a passion for working with youth by using media literacy to help them disrupt the dominant narrative and bridge the connections in real-world context. Before joining The LAMP, Zenzele worked at Harlem Children’s Zone where she advocated for high school students, as well as designed and facilitated media literacy workshops. She is 2016 Innovative Cultural Fellow for the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI), and co-hosts Critics in Coatcheck, a podcast series on African Diaspora art. She holds a B.A. in Sociology, Pan-African Studies and English from Drew University.
Russell Kahn
Kahn_Russell.jpgRussell Kahn created News-O-Matic, the Daily News Just for Kids. 3+ million children have the app, and 1,000+ U.S. schools integrate the texts into their literacy curriculum. Kahn has written 10 books about the Common Core Standards. He studied Print Journalism at Boston University and Elementary Education at Montclair State.
Nicolás Kello
Kello_NicholasNick has worked prolifically as an educator in a variety of school settings teaching diverse subjects including music, literature and philosophy. Aside from his work as a musician he is he currently holds the position of Music Demonstration Teacher at the pioneering UCLA Lab School.
Abby Kiesa
Kiesa_Abby.jpgAs Director of Impact at CIRCLE, Abby serves as liaison to practitioner organizations across the country to maintain a conversation between research and practice related to youth civic and political engagement. She also provides leadership for CIRCLE’s election strategies and works on other research and evaluation projects.
Kate Klonowski
Klonowski_Kate.jpegKate Klonowski is a Ph.D. Candidate in Cultural Foundations at Kent State University. Her areas of study include youth media production, collaboration, and literacy. She serves as Vice President for the Ohio Scholastic Media Association, a G.A., the Advocacy Chair for the Graduate Student Senate, and as a Teaching Fellow.
Randy Kochevar
Kochevar_RandyRandy is director of the Oceans of Data Institute. Trained as a marine biologist, Randy has been involved in exhibit development, print and multimedia publishing, media relations and science education. He is an investigator on the Ocean Tracks, CODAP and Real World, Real Science programs.
Leigh Kolb
Kolb_LeighLeigh Kolb is an English and Journalism instructor at East Central College in Union, Mo. Kolb’s film and television criticism has appeared in print and online publications, and she serves as a screener and juror for film festivals. She blogs about news and media literacy for schooljournalism.org.
Jim Kropp

Shanti Kulkarni
Dr. Kulkarni engages in community based participatory research with marginalized populations whose experiences are shaped by gender, race, ethnicity, and poverty. She teaches at UNC Charlotte School of Social Work and is a PI for Shaping the Message, an NIH-funded project that utilizes media literacy to reduce teen dating violence.
Kristelle Lavallee
Lavallee_Kristelle.jpgKristelle Lavallee is the Content Strategist at the Center on Media and Child Health at Boston Children’s Hospital. Ms. Lavallee translates the latest science and research from the field into actionable advice, practical health resources and curricula that promote children’s healthy and developmentally optimal creation and consumption of media.
Kewman M. Lee
Kewman Lee is a PhD student in Learning, Literacies, & Technologies program at the Arizona State University. Jeff Lemberg oversees the journalism program at Curry College in Milton, Mass., and recently created and teaches the media literacy course that is required of all Communication majors. Jeff, who earned his Ph.D. in journalism/public communication from the University of Maryland, also teaches communication theory and senior capstone.
Prune Lieutier
Prune is the cofounder and production director of La boîte à Pitons, a Montreal-based company that designs and produces digital experiences for children. La boîte à pitons received many awards, including a MITACS-National Research Council Canada prize. Prune is also completing a PhD on the processes of creation involved in the production of digital literature for children.

Annelise Wunderlich
Annelise is a filmmaker and media educator living in San Francisco. She is currently the Executive Producer for KQED Learning, where she oversees educational content production for the Bay Area PBS affiliate. She also has worked as the Education Manager for ITVS, producing community engagement campaigns for the Emmy award-winning PBS series, Independent Lens, in addition to designing curriculum for programs airing on PBS series Frontline, FUTURESTATES, and Global Voices. She is co-directing “The Corridor,” a documentary feature about the nation’s first charter high school operating inside a county jail. She served on NAMLE’s Board from 2009-2011.

Malori, a native of Herriman Utah, has been involved in over seven student films and many other projects. Malori was a member of the story team and lead over the “Weird Stuff Land” section of Dark Ride Disneyland. She recently graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s degree in media arts.

Michael Lee Gardin
Michael Lee Gardin is a researcher and teacher in feminist, gender, and queer studies as well as in writing, literature, and critical theory. She recently joined the faculty of Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, Texas and teaches Women’s Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her current research focuses on decolonizing the study of gender and sexuality as well as feminist and queer theory and transgender studies. Michael Lee is also a dedicated pedagogue, and in her time outside of the classroom, she is developing new scholarship focused on teaching practices in Women’s Studies courses in an effort to recognize and utilize the multiple and often contending ways that different disciplines conceptualize gender. Michael Lee understands her theorizing of social justice, her teaching, and her advocacy on college campuses as interrelated, always informing one another, and her mentorship and activism has been recognized with such honors as the LGBT Faculty Advocate of the Year Award as well as an invitation to be the keynote speaker at a Lavender Graduation ceremony.

Annelise Wunderlich
Annelise is a filmmaker and media educator living in San Francisco. She is currently the Executive Producer for KQED Learning, where she oversees educational content production for the Bay Area PBS affiliate. She also has worked as the Education Manager for ITVS, producing community engagement campaigns for the Emmy award-winning PBS series, Independent Lens, in addition to designing curriculum for programs airing on PBS series Frontline, FUTURESTATES, and Global Voices. She is co-directing “The Corridor,” a documentary feature about the nation’s first charter high school operating inside a county jail. She served on NAMLE’s Board from 2009-2011.
